The most popular origin story of the Hurricane cocktail is tied to Pat O’Brien’s bar in New Orleans’ French Quarter. The drink was reportedly created in the 1940s during World War II. Grandpa Jim Strickler sang in a bar across the street from Pat O’Brien’s when he was on leave from the Merchant Marine Academy during World War II.
